My daughters xbox drive has been sticking for ages i allways manage to get it open with a technical tap
but yesterday after i had a few drinks she wanted me to open it and i couldnt get it open so i prized it open with a knife now it doesn't register that it's closed even when the drive is closed. Is it done for or does anyone have any ideas? |

Can you post an image or two of the damage?
Also, open up the drive and make sure nothing is causing it to jam inside... can you still hear it spin up when you power on the console? |

The problematic opening would have been a broken (missing) tray mech gear tooth, your "technical taps" would have jolted it enough to make it bite onto the next tooth.. In prising it open what I suspect you've done now is to have slipped the drive tray forward on its drive running gears, so now when it closes, the runners are not going back far enough to register its closed.. Ultimately you're going to have the drive replaced, but, with nothing to lose, with the drive tray open, give it a sharp forceful hand jolt as if to push it back in, see if you cant force it back into position on its runners to where its meant to be situated, I doubt you'll suceed but worth a go... But a replacement drive is most probably what you will need..

There's no reason why he can't just get another chassis and swap his PCB and laser into it.
However, you would need to re-solder I think 6 wires Mitford. |

There are a few wires connecting the PCB to the drive motor, these are easy to remove and re-install.... just remember where they go when you solder them back on
