Default Printer/copier

Hi there, I'm lookong to buy myself a new printer for home use budget up to about £100, something quite compact and not costly when buying cartridges. used mostly for doc's and some photo's, again the choice out there is bewildering and the more research you do the less clear things so I thought some one here might reccomend a model they are happy with, any input on this would be appreciated thank you.

So you're after an MFP, theres so many to choose from, and some are so cheap now (they claw their money back from ink cartridge sales) .. I saw one on Tesco the other day, a Canon something or other, 25 quid.. Even wireless wifi enabled ones can be bought for under 50 quid... There so much choice, but things to consider before making a choice..

My advice, when you see one you like the price & features of, before buying, have a search to see if its possible to get "Compatible Ink Cartridges" for it, the price difference between Manufacturers Genuine ink cartridges & Compatibles is rediculous, if you purchase a printer that allows you to use compatible inks you'll save yourself a fortune. Theres some printers out there that you can only use the manufacturers genuine inks in, and that will be costly in the long run..

Print Quality problems with cheap inks? Well, Ive never noticed a difference nor had a problem with using compatible inks, the last lot of inks for my Epson photo printer (a bulk buy of 20 cartridges) worked out at less than a quid for each cartridge.. Genuine Epson inks are around 7 or 8 quid each, and my printer uses 6 at a time.. Ive always bought Epson printers, they just work well, and Ive always been able to buy compatibles inks at low cost..

Hi, I was looking at 2 epsom printers in Asda the other day, the 435 and 445 the latter costing £59.99 the first £79.99 the only difference I can see is the size of the LCD screen and on the side of the box the 435 has OCD where the 445 doesn't, I don't yet know what it means but so far I've come up with 'chip debugging' again no clue at all.

Thanks again

They're both a bit cheaper on Amazon..

There seems to be compatible inks available for them printers, on Amazon, the sellers claim they have the latest chips on them so no problems there.. So if you like either of them printers then go for it, they do look quite nice...

OCD ??? thats bizarre, Ive no idea what that means to Epson, to me its Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, lol... Could it be something to do with being able to reset ink cart chip if you decide to do home refills (which is silly in my opinion when compat' carts' are cheap enough), Im just guessing, maybe the manual might explain more if you download it from Epson...

You could try IJT -
Code:
http://www.ijtdirect.co.uk/home/
They have a few "Free" printers to choose from when you buy some ink.

I would go for HP Printers if I were you. Ink might not be that cheap, but the quality is worth it in my opinion. I am using HP Deskjet 3070A, and i'm very happy with it.

Bought a HP Officejet 6500A plus recently, which someone on Amazon is currently selling at £79:
HP Officejet Plus 6500A e-All-in-One Web Enabled Printer (Print, Scan, Copy, Fax, Wireless, e-Print): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

It's a good all rounder for print/copy/scan, but more importantly, the price per page is pretty cheap - a big selling point IMO as ink can end up costing loads more than the printer if not careful.
