Default Suggest A Low-Cost Budget Android Handset

I am going to get a budget Android device for my brother as a new year gift. My first choice wold be LG Optimus One P500. It has got recent Gingerbird 2.3 update. Can any one used this handset can share their experience also as I am going to buy it by the end of the month.

Suggest any other mobiles within the price brackets which you feel better than LG.

Samsung Galaxy Y are £115 at CPW - and they offer trade-ins. Thinking of getting one myself.

The HTC Wildfire S would be the most obvious choice... Sony Ericsson's Xperia phones have a good reputation, but they look a bit smallish for the average adult male's hands. YMMV, though.

If you're looking to spend even less, the ZTE Blade aka Orange San Francisco is said to be the best budget option there is, period. The ZTE Skate also looks good!

I've heard good things about the Galaxy Ace, but not about the Galaxy Y. In fact, I've heard it's one to avoid: http://www.otest.co.uk/p/samsung-tes...y-reviews.html

In any case, there are too many good options out there to go with an LG! I'd definitely go for HTC, Samsung or ZTE (or even Huawei!)

The San Fran II. Awesome phone and value for money. Im getting an Xperia play in a bit (Selling my San Fran)

The Xperia play costs £155 online (£500 in store - not worth £500 at all.Worth around £215 but not £500)

Another phone worth getting is the Acer Liquid Metal. It has specs similar to the Huawei U8800 but cheaper and better value for the money.

The HTC Wildfire S may look nice but the San Fran trumps it and is cheaper

Dont get the Xperia Mini. I know far too many people who've had to give them back due to a fault with the software - May be fixable with a custom ROM but these faults occurred so quickly after purchasing the phone

Well I borrowed a Galaxy Y to have a play and found it OK, took some getting used to the small touchcreen but found a major problem for me with the bluetooth. I had to make the device discoverable before my Car-kit would connect and for some reason, it only stays discoverable for 2 minutes - so every time I get into the car, I would have to go through the menu and make the device discoverable.

I decided to skip that and got a HTC Wildfire instead, bought one off ebay which hasn't arrived yet (despite it being posted a week ago by 1st class recorded), then found a cheap one locally. It came with Froyo installed and as many sites said that was not rootable, it took a couple of Hours to root it and get cyanogenmod (Android 2.3.7) installed. It does have the option of keeping the Bluetooth discoverable but so far I have not been able to transfer the phonebook to my car-kit - Doh, but I'm working on a custom vcf file to try.

Phone seems quite responsive with the touchscreen a little larger and easier for my fat fingers. It'll probably take months to get it fully customised to my liking
