Default communal dish

allright lads/lasses I'm looking for a bit of advice for a friend,he lives in ablock of four with a communal dish doesn't have a subscription to sky but the connection for the dish is there.could he just hook up a dreambox to it for sky.this is what i think,just looking for conformation from someone more knowledgeable about satellite.cheers

Assuming the feed is live, he could hook up his (satellite) dreambox for the FTA channels. To get the encrypted Sky channels he needs access to a sky card, either directly or by Card Sharing.

cheers lincsat but what do you mean by card sharing?.does the dreambox require a card or just the info from it?.also are there any sat receivers that do not require a card similar to the eurovox on cable ie truly pnp.cheers.

Sky satellite is NOT hacked, so access to a card is necessary. I've no personal experience of CS, but my understanding is that someone subscribes to the full package and everyone's receiver can read the data over the internet.
