Default Unable to boot install disk

Here's a tricky one for you mac users.

I've got an iMac, i'm trying to install lion os x on it, but when i boot the cd by holding C, it just boots as normal, also doesn't recognize the disk when i hold the option key... but shows up fine when it's booted.

I also tried a windws 7 disk by holding C and that loads up fine, the disc image is fine as far as i know.

If the Windows 7 boot discs loads fine, it sounds to me like the OSX ISO/disc is at fault.

As far as i know mac's don't have a bios lol.

The dmg image seems fine, it's an apple downloaded file... and my USB drive doesn't show as a bootable device either.

BIOS on a mac is called Open Firmware, turn on and press and hold command > option > O and F together till you hear 2 beeps when the O appears you type in commands.
To boot from usb or disc hold the C key on boot up till boot menu appears then double click on the drive you want.

Tried OF, doesn't do anything on mine, holding c does nothing and the only drive that shows available is the HDD, also doesn't show up in disk utility, but mounts onto the desktop fine...

I was thinking of booting it from an external cd drive, think it would work?
