I would say there is a very small risk. There have been no reports of anyone being caught that way.

so if you dont have the hub and just a normal router is that more secure? like not getting caught in anyway?

So when the boxes go off would you need to reflash them only and not pay for subs like you do with the starview?

thinking of switching sides now lol

Are you currently subscribed to Virgin Media for TV and thinking of removing the TV subscription?

Get VM to downgrade your tv channels saving you £6.00 a month get the M package mate.. if there say there don't do this its lies make out you have lost your job and you are cutting costs around the house.. then next is to either buy a SV or KV box then connect it up you should be okay with the super hub if not complain and get a 256 from them saying that the superhub blocks all internet gaming like i did im on a 20mb connection with VM and i use the 256 modem with my own wireless router attached to it.

Don't you think that given the jail terms that the Starview team got that this might be a bit risky? Won't they be looking out for this type of stuff?

VM or other broadband supplier, the risks are pretty much the same regardless. If VM were to start looking into who connects to the server they wouldn't bother to monitor traffic within there own network, they would simply set up a monitor to certain server IP addresses at one of the few international 'choke' points (easily done with the help of law enforcement types) and capture everything to the servers.

As lincsat mentioned there really is a very small risk for end users (basically, because there is so many and VM dont want to publicise the scale of the problem) but if your really concerned then the best option is not to connect directly to the server. Use a foreign proxy or VPN to make it appear that you are connecting to somewhere else.
