A few thousand abrord is nothing compared to the thousands in the UK. Considering Sky is not suposed to be sold outside the UK I dont think they are realy that bothered. I would have thought that only the free stuff will be on a tight beam and possibly sky could have an ex pat package up there sleave, for a fee of course.

Good to know But true, it's a big F*** you to all the expats that really need native TV, for instance to make sure their kids get enough exposure to the language.

They only have the rights for UK (and in same cases Ireland), that is why some ITV regions are encrypted (FTV). In theory, you should get your TV from the rights holder for the territory you are viewing in.

A few thousand Sky viewers abroad has actually been estimated at up to 500,000! It is true that Sky only have rights to broadcast to the UK, but I am sure they turn a blind eye to the expat viewers. There was a recent test case where the EU ruled that the Greek Nova system could legally be viewed in the UK, so I would guess the reverse is true if it came to the test. The EU has it's advantages sometimes.
