Question playing ps2 games on ps3

hello again guys after playing on and off with the ps3 for my boys..they seems to be one last thing to try LOL

yes you guessed it playing ps2 games ..

i understand that the 60gig ones do the job but unlooky for us we ended up with a 40gig lol..

anyways as follows ive so far sorted JB3.55,able to play backups from internal and externaland also play PKG files from external instead or internal...

im sure they must be some PKG or summit that you install to play them any ideas?

i watched on UT that you need to goto PS store to do it so as its been a while for the ps3 guys they must be a way thanks Dazza

I don't think the 40GB model will play PS2 games even if it is jailbroken. The reason being is that the console doesn't have the PS2's Emotion Engine chip (which the 60GB model has) and it doesn't currently have any software to support PS2 games (the 80GB model partially supports PS2 games through the use of software emulation).

This could probably be achieved if some clever developer was able to port the emulation software from the 80GB models and make it open source or reverse-engineer it in order for it to be used with ALL jailbroken consoles.

I heard that a Sony where going to update the console to make PS2 games work....

This was like 5months ago from a person at work he said he saw it on IGN but i can't find anything..

So do you think sony could do a update to make them work or would it need a new console again.. there should bring out the silms with the choice ****'s me off that there have cut it from every console.
