Default LG dvd receiver LH T550

a friend who has recently moved house is having a problem playing shop bought dvd's on her player, it shows reading then shows "no disc", though it will play dvd's bought down the local market. searching the web i have come acroos a few suggestions could anyone confirm or deny any please.

1. receiver should be in av1 not av2 scart as av2 can accept only s-video or composite.(hers is in av2, that much i do know)
2. playing pirated dvds can change region settings if played to often.
3. dvd laser needs cleaning with lens cleaner disc
4. its broken.

cant see the last two applying as it plays pirated dvd's, 1st two maybe maybe not or does anyone have any other ideas as i will be going over sometime next week to have a play.

Maybe the DVD player is set to Region1, shop bought DVD's will be region 2 and so wont play, pirate DVD's will be region free so will play..

Try this to make it multiregion.

Unlock Region Code for the LG DVD Player LH-T550

  1. Turn the player on (without disc inserted)
  2. Open the disc tray
  3. Press PAUSE
  4. Enter either 000 or 0000 (until the player displays your current region code)
  5. Enter desired region code (1-6 or 0=region free)
  6. Press ENTER (may or may not need to do this step depending on the model)
  7. Press PAUSE
  8. Close the disc tray (may not need to do this)
  9. Turn it off
What are the Region Codes

CodeRegion 1USA, Canada 2Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland 3S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia 4Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico) 5Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa 6China 7Reserved for Unspecified Special Use 8Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc... 9Reserved 0 or ALLDiscs are not coded and can be played Worldwide

This should work on most LG players.

Sorry have taken so long posting results, finally got around to looking at the dvd player and followed Reddiesel's recommendation and it worked. Even though the region code was showing 2 for europe I followed through with his posting and when I turned it off and then restarted it the dvd worked as should( should have added that I left it on region 2 though may unlock it if need be at a later date). She is now happy that she can watch her box set of Hercule Poirot on her main tv and not the portable. Many thanks to Reddiesel
