Default Need help with motorized dish alignment

hi every one, i'm new to motorized satellite dish installation so i hope i find some help here.i think of purchasing new motorized USALS satellite dish system instead of my fixed old one,but after doing some internet surfing i found that installing motorized system involves directing the system to true south based on system location.problem is...south direction is blocked by other buildings to me and my installation options are only from south west, north to north east.my current fixed dish installation towards (nilesat 7 W).is it possible to install my new motorized system without my Satellite Dish Look Angle Heading to the south as reference point ?

my location is:

Alexandria , EGYPT
Latitude: 31.2456° N
Longitude: 29.9993° E

satellite coverage in my location
1-nilesat (7 W)
2-atlanticbird 4 (7.3 W)
3-amos (4 W)
4-thor (4.3 W)
5-eutelsat w2a (10 E)
6-eutelsat w3 (7 E)
7-Hotbird (13 E)
and some other satellites (i can't rememberall of them now) i hope i can receive them after successful installation.
thanks to all of you in advance

Yes.. you can use any strong satellite in your area including 7w since you know that's ok ... just select 7w and the motor will move to it if you've input your long lat correctly ... and line it up and adjust dish elevation ..

thank you so much,as you said all i need to do is to adjust my satellite dish looking angle heading to strong satellite in my area (nilesat 7 W) while the motor angle is 0 degree, then using USALS settings in my receiver to add my correct latitude and longitude ,then selecting nilesat 7 W and adjusting dish elevation for maximum signal, and this will be my reference satellite.afterwards i can pick any other satellite in my area (let's say Hotbird 13 E) by just adjusting USALS settings in my receiver...and so on for other satellites, with no need to adjust the dish elevation anymore.please correct me if i miss any thing!!!

No, that is not correct if I understand what you have written.

You must first send the motor/dish to 7w nilesat using usals, then adjust the dish and the motor around the pole to get the best signal on nilesat.

Though it might be better to do it on 13e or whatever satellite is closer to your longitude, as setting up at or near the top of the arc is always better.

ok ,thanks for correcting me ...so the right thing is to drive the motor from zero degree using usals to hotbird 13E (near top of the arc for my locationas you recommended) when just the motor around the pole at any position, then move the motor and dish around the pole east and west for signal ,then adjust dish elevation for completing and channel scan.if this process gone fine i guess i have Hotbird 13E ...i save that ,then using usals i drive the motor to another satellite (let's say nilesat 7W). if my first steps were right i should have no problem receiving nilesat 7W or other receivable satellite from my location...right?

Your true south position is your longitude, according to your post this is 30E, but using Usals you can choose any satellite you want.

7w should be safer due to the issues of buildings in the way in his due south .... he knows 100% 7w is ok ... after that you'll find what is ok round the arc and what the buildings block ..

thank you all for your cooperation,i have another question concerning LNBs
i have two LNB no.1 with (noise=0.3 and gain=77db) and no.2 (noise=0.3db Gain=65 db),i used to install the one with gain=65db but i noticed some channels were missing ,when i installed the one with Gain=77 db, both signal strength and quality have been improved and missing channels appeared with good signal.
why that happened?and what are the factors affecting LNB quality?

thanks, but that leads me to another concern!!dish elevation
if i adjust the dish elevation for the strongest satellite in my area (as reference satellite instead of true south method coz my south blocked by buildings) does that affect receiving the rest of satellites?

In theory, no. You need to go and try it now mate, you have enough info and understanding to go give it a bash.
