Default media player wmv help

hi all, ive got a home media player 500gig, not sure what make it is. It will play avi files but wont play wmv, mp4 or mkv. Is there any way i can update it to play these other file types? I know I could convert these files but it takes an eternity and ive got a lot of files. Any help would be great thanks

Sounds like a codec issue

Download the Klite Codec pack and then give it a shot and see if it works.
