Default Eurovox & Cable Modem Connection Advice

Hi I wonder if someone can help me..

i purchased a Eurovox max yesterday and connected it up however i could not get any channels. so i went outside and checked the box on the front outside wall and sure enough the cable from the box was not connected to the white box in my living room.

the cable comes from the street and is connected into another cable which goes round the outside of my house to a back bedroom for the cable modem.

so i went to maplin's and purchased a 4in1 splitter with a rating of 40-2150 mhz.

however when i connect this up i cannot get a connection to my cable modem. but i am able to tune in my eurovox..

is it just a case of purchasing a different splitter?.

*****UPDATE*****

just got back from maplins with a different 4in1 splitter this one has a rating of 5-1000mhz
but this didnt make any difference either.

thanx

Make sure all the ports on the splitter will pass signal and check your connections - that is the usual cause of this problem.

Hi lincsat.

I have tested each port on both splitters that i have..

and each time it is the same result the EV works every time but the modem cant get a signal..

i have check the connections on each end of the cable that runs from the front of the house upto the room where the modem is and they look fine.

*****UPDATE*****

I have now tried 3 different F splitters.

I have also tried connecting the F splitter at the beginning of the cable with out the EV connected and I got no connection on the modem.

I thought that maybe the run from the front to the back of the house was maybe too long and maybe that was causing the problem so I have also tested the F Splitter at the end of the run between the white box and the cable modem and i still got no connection on the modem.

this is really doing my head in now..

surely i cant have 3 incompatible F Splitters..

thanx

Have a look in the outside box, there might be a filter fitted that limits the signal.take it off.

Hi reddiesel

the only thing in the outside box is the thin telephone cable and the thicker tv/modem cable.

the thicker cable is then joined with a single connector to the cable that goes around the outside of the house upto the room where the modem is.

thanx

Is it good quality sat cable, or aerial coax that someones put on,you should get a better signal than that. Is it in good condition no splits or cracks where water can get in,maybe someones run over it with the lawn mower,or the dogs been chewing it.have you made sure no outer braids are touching the centre core in the splitter connectors. like lincsat said it seems like a bad connection somewhere.
