Default Ntl connection

New house move, cable point at the new premises req. helpful advice.

My thoughts

I have no box (ntl) so i need to purchase one. I could ask ntl to install a basic package and subcribe to their 3 tierd option (phone, broadband, tv) for say £30 per month.

Then purchase a stb like a eurovox etc... to open more tv channels for educational purpose.

My Problem

If i connect the eurovox do i loose the phone and broadband (that i pay for) and only keep the tv?

Also do i connect the eurovox to the ntl box (in circuit) or do i connect it directly to the main point(wall socket)?

Some simple questions, but please help so i can make the right purchase, i.e stb and subcribed packages.

As for programming, I used to cams, cas2 and infinity phoenix card programmer for sat use.

Thanks in advance....

Thx KWACKER

But I doubt i'd receive broadband and phone too?

I would prefer to subcribe to something (bb and phone) but have a eurovox to receive more tv, if required I wanted to know if this has problems or if it can be done?

Lets say i subcribed to phone and BB, how would i go about linking the eurovox, i'm guessing the sub box stays inline (talk back, broadband, phone) but the euro vox is split to open more tv channels. Or do i just plug in the Eurovox and connect the phone, bb and tv into that, for this to work bb and phone do not require talkback to work under normal use. This is where im getting stuck as phone and bb could be a different type of box for all i know, please help....

Cheers

I would go for the 2 for 20 or 3 for 30 deal. Get them to install the TV box in your bedroom and then get a hookey box (Eurovox, starview, D-Box2, Dreambox or whatever) and put that in the lounge - you could also get a hacked modem

thx lincsat,

Ok so get them to install a talk back deal, say bb and phone in the lounge then link the eurovox for instance for tv in the same room to save running into signal probs. BTW there is a small white connection point in the lounge that has the ntl logo and cable point.

If this is correct, how would i setup the boxes? Can i run both boxes at the same time, ntl and eurovox for example?

Separate to the above and more of a educational question, does the phone run off the ntl box? Because having that with no talk back sounds a bit silly due to billing etc so i guess its best to sub that... Dunno just a thought.

Thx very much...

I think lincsat read my first post as it states i already have a lounge connection therefore, get the talkback going from another room using phone and bb package.

Then the existing socket in the lougne can be used for tv either for a future sub or hookey box etc...

If this is correct GREAT!!! However, i just hope the original socket is live and they dont switch it off when installing the phone and bb upstairs. If this is the case i will probably end up asking for the 3 for £30 deal that includes basic tv too asking them to switch the tv on downstairs, then hook up the hookey box in the lounge. Sound good or overkill on my part

What you think m8, please reply...

That's it M8. In fact if you tell your installer that you might be moving things around - for a few £££ he might connect you up 3 or 4 live points in different rooms

Many Thx lincsat,

Finally, when they come to install the bb and phone sub, what box will they use, will it be a normal ntl box? And will it will receive the std tv (non sub like freeview) channels to?

Inaddition I'm thinking that having a sub (bb and phone) is best when thinking of using a hookey box, i dont know if im best to get the basic tv sub too (bb 2mb, phone & basic tv) then connect to hookey box.

Sense or OTT?

Cheers

Hi The phone comes in to a socket like a std bt one, the cable comes in separately, the std package is like you said, just free stuff, you get a normal box usualy pace, they just put a splitter in the cable for the modem for your broadband. The cheapest option for you would be basic package tv and phone. Then you could have their box maybe in your bedroom, so they get talkback from it, your box in lounge, and modded modem for broadband, you would need a three way splitter. As long as your cable runs ar'nt too long you should be ok.

can you provide details on a hacked broadband modem for N*L cable.

I've today purchased a Dreambox 600 for tv viewing, just wondering what type of modem & cost for broadband access.
