Default Samsung TV can't find channels

Hi there,

I've recently purchased a Samsung LE32D550 32 inch TV but can't get the thing to auto-tune to any channels.

My understanding was that it had a Freeview tuner built in so should be able to pick-up channels via the existing cable connection in the flat. I'm not familiar with how cable works and we've only just moved in - am I missing something obvious? I've bought an adapter so that it fits into the back of the TV (the cable had an F connector on both ends so I've changed one to a male coax type connection so it goes into the antenna bit at the back of the TV).

The previous tenants had a TV in the same place as us and the cables don't appear to have changed. Any help/ advice/ thoughts would be very gratefully received. I've attached a few photos of where the cable leads to in the wall, the 2 way splitter and the cables. TV works fine with DVD player so think it's pretty unlikely to be a fault there.

Thanks for reading

If the cable had an F connector attached it is probably a satellite cable.
Can you trace the cable, to the source? You might find a satellite dish.

Although looking at your images you have a telewest broadband connection pictured, which I think is now virgin media, so you might be in a cable area.

I suggest you check with your neighbours, to see what they have, and look for a normal television antenna.

Thanks, Mickha. The cable leads to the Telewest box pictured. I'm not entirely sure where it goes to from there. There's no sign of a conventional TV antenna lead/ port anywhere in the flat, only this.

Stupid question, but is it not possible to pick-up channels from a cable like this without paying the extra for a service like Virgin Media?

Thanks for your help.

free view is from a tv areial only,
free sat is from a dish

THERE IS NOTHING FROM A CABLE FEED INTO YOUR TV !! without a box

There used to be 3 years ago the analogue coming down the feed (5 channels) but as every one knows was shut off in areas a few weeks ago.

also as the above posted, if you split the feed from a dish with a cable splitter, it will kill the feed
