hello peeps,
Ive had sky with broadband for a few years. and only ever really watched the movies and football. Ive been thinking of cutting the £70 monthly costs for a while and yesterday my sky+ box packed up..So I figued now would be a good a time as any to make the break.. Ive decided to go with tesco broadband as i was with them before and the broadband is pretty solid in my area (wolverhampton).. I wasnt really thinking about doing anything with the TV other than going back to an old digi box with free channels. Which then got me thinking about the satellite dish stuck on the house and what could be done with it and hence I googled and found you guys. Im only really interested in 2 things.. Can I watch live premiere league football ? can I watch decent film channels ? I would also like to be able to pause & rewind live & record films etc to watch at later date.. Films need to be in english, football not so fussed. What set up would I need to accomplish this if it is at all possible. Budget of around £300 or less. But could push higher if theres a system worth investing in. I really could do with some solid recomendations on what to go for. regards gaz |

Motorised 90cm or 1m or 1.1m where you are and a choice of receivers like the tm5402hd ....you'll never look back..

I always suggest you first work out where you need to site your dish, in order to get as many satellites as possible, preferably at least 42E to 30W.
Try dishpointer.com, type in your postcode, zoom in on the map, and locate your house. In a perfect world a ground mounted system is easier to install, and maintain, but you have to be fortunate to have a South facing garden with a clear view of all satellites. |

But what you have both missed is that he will not get the TV he wants for free for under £300. Unless he goes down the C/S route which I would not recommend he will be best sticking with Sky or go with Virgin. And even if he went down the C/S route the cost of a decent PVR with HDD will be around £300 such as the VU+ Duo and then the dish pack.

Put my postcode into dishpointer.com and got
Latitude: 52.6006° Longitude: -2.0769° Satellite: 91W GALAXY 17 (G-17) | NIMIQ 1 | NIMIQ 2 Elevation: -8.0° Azimuth (true): 269.1° Azimuth (magn.): 271.4° Which pretty much points in the opposite direction my sky dish currently points in.. not a problem. What brand named motorised dish's are worth looking at ?. I mean whats protocol for a motorised setup. What do I need ? dish receiver some kind of card ? power lead to the motorised dish. what else.. regards gaz Last edited by gazsales; 30-06-12 at 12:40 PM. |

You can select any satellite you wish, on the dishpointer site, I suggest you select 1W, as this is probably your nearest true south satellite.
Your longitude provides you with your true south, in this case -2.0769, negative values = west, positive = south, 20 your true south is 2W. Try dishpointer again, enter your postcode, select 1W, from the satellite list, and position the green baloon where you need to site your new dish. There are far too many receivers, with similar options, to advise you on, and members quite often change/update receivers, but we usually stick with our dish, and motor. Most motors are moved by the receiver, using just the coax cable, the receiver provides the power. To start off maybe you should try a Spiderbox, or something similar, contact radtv, they will recommend something, and explain what the receiver can do. For a dish, you are allowed upto a 1M dish, without the need to apply for planning permission, in most circumstances, but this could depend on whether you're renting or live in a listed building. |

Check full details, before deciding, especially regarding the sturdy mount, most installers would recommend a very sturdy mount, for a large dish, including T&K brackets.
First you need to know where you are going to site the dish, as I've mentioned, as this will affect what you require. |

That kit won't get you anymore than just free to air channels, as Mickha said look at the Spiderbox 9900 as with a piece of free software you will get plenty on decent channels that are normally encrypted, but NO UK Sly ones.
