surrond sound help

Recently bought an LG DH900 DVD Home Cinema System. The problem i have is that there doesnt appear to be an optical audio input connection on the back. So my question is, how can i watch my cable tv with surround sound without this connection.

Do you have audio input on back of System (red & white)? just use a phono lead from back of system and cable box.

I have tried that but doesn't give surround sound to cable box only stereo. I think I read somewhere that you can only get surround sound with an optical audio lead and connection?

You cant attain surround sound from an external source because your home cinema system has no connectivity for it.. You will only experience surround sound from DVD's you play on the system.
