Default Changing number of channesl!?

Hello I am new .... I cannot find anyone with this exact problem so sorry if I missed it:

I am basically getting a different amount of channels each time I retune my box! We recently got a new aerial on the roof and I was told it was a digital high gain aerial as the old one got broken. I seemed to have no problems before. I also have a indoor powered digital aerial which seems to get around 90 ish channels but I did notice that the indoor one had a change of number of channels 2 the last time I used it - possibly due to bad signal.
When I check the signal strength its around 30 percent from the roof aerial and 50 from the indoor aerial! But the quality is usually on 100 (this is on my Humax hd-fox t2). I have another cheap box on an old tv and that also has different numbers of channels each time but is normally a bit better at getting them surprisingly! My house is pretty near the transmitter (about one mile away and we are on a hill so not much is in the way). Surely the signal is not too strong if it says 30 odd percent strength no? Anyway any more ideas thanks allot!

Check your aerial connections, and if the roof aerial is only 30% signal quality then call out the installer, as something is wrong.
Perhaps the aerial has moved, damaged, or the cable is damaged.

If you're only a mile away from the transmitter I would have thought you'd get tip top signal reception on a coat hanger.. So it could be possible that your getting too much signal, some tuners cope better than others with over modulation, that might explain the channels differences on different devices. Nip to Maplin and buy an Aerial Attenuator, see if using one improves things for you..

Yer I was thinking that (maplins) but why would the indoor aerial give me different numbers of channels too? Plus the indoor aerial seems to work only when I turn the signal booster up - so thats pointing to weak signal. The only thing I can think of is the scaffolding on the house - but the roof aerial is just above the top of the scaffolding - one pole is sticking up in front of it but stops a few cm below the pointing part for want of a better word! Hmmm so stumped....tnx

I found an old belling lee box in the basement - possibly an amplifier? Would this be an analogue amplifier an so be naff for digital? Or should it be doing fine. With my signal at 30 percent surely I need a booster? Or try to get them to change that box? Thanks

Can't you borrow a digital box, or DVD recorder with built in freeview? If this gives the same readings then the problem is with your aerial.
You mention a signal booster, have you tried sending your roof aerial through this booster, or is it inbuilt to your indoor aerial?

My other box is between 30 and 40 ish but its cheap and may not be as accurate I reckon. The indoor aerial has inbuilt amplifier 12v powered. I am wondering as the roof is 2 floors up and the booster / splitters are one floor down maybe this is weakening the signal? And or the old belling lee box is not built for digital? tnx

Edit: ps I dont seem to get break up of picture it more like the multiplex's are either there or not if that makes sense?

before they where

12 Das erste
9 ZDF
6 SAT 1

an i didn't like that much. Because when i presse "1" on the remote i
