An excellent solution although I suspect most will be either too lazy or too tight to set this kind of thing up.

As mentioned previously, you cannot bypass VM's quantity based traffic management by changing ports or protocol. A byte is a byte and will increment the counters regardless !

The only way to get around this is to do your downloading outside of the stm hours - usually throughout the night.

Specific protocol rules are something else. Simply changing ports would be ineffective as VM use packet inspection techniques to identify the protocol regardless of port. You could use a vpn but there is some evidence that VM have started detecting and rate-limiting these in a similar way to that used for p2p connections.

Regardless of what you do in an attempt to get around rules, vm can detect and block those attempts. Once something starts to cause them a problem they will act, exactly the same as any other provider.

You cant bypass the quota of data during traffic management hours, as already pointed out by the coder. If you want to protect your data then VPN type services will help.

Right well my internet set up is a superhub modem with one rj-45 connected into the xbox 360 directly, 2 laptops, 1 BB playbook & sometimes my blackberry handset connects to the internet occasionally. The playbook tablet and mums laptop apparently from what I've seen all buffer up HD youtube content perfectly fine and from other sites like iplayer. Also the xbox buffering is really excellent, really fast. But it's just my laptop a brand new 2012 hp dv7 core i7 that has the issue of buffering. Whether I'm upstairs/downstairs its the same problem. Mum has a hp g62 and hers is fine and streaming youtube videos on phone is fine too.

Could it be that I have used utorrent application since I had the VM box installed be the reason I get slow speeds on hd video buffering?

If its not running then it shouldn't cause a problem.

Check from your running task list to see if anything is eating either network bandwidth or cpu cycles. Some antivirus products can cause havoc if they are allowed to analyse streaming media data

First thing to look for is anything eating lots of cpu cycles but as a general rule just look for something 'odd'. I get to know the contents of my running task list from day 1 of OS install then, if anything new appears without reason, its likely to be treated as suspicious and investigated. !

It was for me at one point I use it to bypass work related websense server. Being an admin I had access to putty, ports werent blocked and used cygwin on the windows home pc. After doing the neccessary port forwarding on the router I was able to tunnel my internet traffic through my home pc.

You can also setup your home ftp server through and even use remote desktop as well through the secure connection instead of using logmein or other sites...

And have also used it at home connecting to my kimi for various stuff but it is really easy and very cool once you do it.

Would you look in the processes bit of task manager or the services bit of task manager? & I've just done a speed test of the same internet using my laptop against my mums laptop, both hp's mine is a dv7 and the other hp (mums) is a g62 and when I do a speedtest one at a time the g62 is getting full speed access whereas my internet connection is picking up sketchy speeds. I'm frustrated as I've never had this problem ever in my life :/ *cries*

After looking through mums task list on task manager I thought wait a minute I usually delete the intel wireless driver off all new laptops like I had done on mums laptop so I deleted it off mine and now I'm using the generic driver for the wifi adapter in my laptop by win 7 and I'm getting full speeed! Stupid me!! oh yeah at the same time a UK virgin media technician rang me 10 minutes later to help me so I explained to him what actually happened and I appreciated he had rung. Finally let's get downloading!!!
