New r4i3ds card not working in daughters 3ds

Yesterday I bought two r4i3ds cards at the market
They both work great in my pink 3DS (purchased in Australia).
But on my daughters white 3DS (purchased in Australia through EB Games who imported 10000 white Japanese units a few months ago) I get a black screen with an error message telling me that I need to check documentation etc.

I thought I might need to update the kernel on her card, but...I'm a bit frightened as the website above outlines the process but the items they tell me to copy are not found in the kernel update on their site.

As I am trying this on my own card first (my daughter is autistic, can't handle having something not work right - I had to buy her a DS Lite just so she could use the card!), I would really appreciate some guidance.

This is my first foray into the R4 world and it's all a bit new.
Any help, again, would be greatly appreciated.

So I grabbed a different microSD and tried to update through that.
Now the DS floating icon has changed to say 'deep Labyrinth Digital Bros' and when I click on it it gives me the

"an error has occurred. Press and hold the power button to turn the system off. please refer to the operations manual". By updating the firmware on this card, I now can't use even my original microSD in my 3DS.

I am so angry and frustrated.

DS Lite cannot access it either. How can one update, from the right site, listed on the actual card, stuff up both my 3DS and my DSL?

Is this permanent?
