Do not know how many TiVo/PVR fanatics we have out there, but I have had a TiVo since they first came on the market back in 1999. I actually own 8 of them right now and I would have to guess that my combined storage space right now is a little more than 1 terrabyte.
Now TiVo has announced their next generation box the Series 3. A few things to note about it is one it has dual-tuners and supports HD. It also has a display panel on the front so you can tell at a glance what is being recorded. The coolest thing for me, though, is it has a built-in SATA connection for adding more storage space. All my TiVos have had their hard drive space manually upgraded by me. I have done it enough now to know it is not my favorite thing in the world to do, so just being able to plug in a SATA device or array will be very nice. The only thing that may keep me away is I already have an HDTiVo for my directv service. This Series 3 does not have a satellite tuner in it, so you would have to get the seperate HD satellite tuner to use it with the satellite. Not the end of the world, but it is not a straight sideways uppgrade path from the DirecTivo. You can read more about the announcement here: http://www.gearlive.com/index.php/ne...ok-0108051437/ |
