Default com port

Hi im new to this forum but not techwatch. Im having a problem getting anything to connect to my serial port. No matter what number I show it as is wont connect. Am I missing a setting somewhere. I have looked in device manager. I can see com 1 but nothing re serial port.

COM 1 should be your serial port - Do you have a physical port on the back of your PC, what are you trying to connect?

I usually use the following settings - 9600, 8, n, 1, n

there should be two nine pin serial ports on the back of your computer the top one is com 1. There are no set perameters for it but it depends on which device you are using for. Mostly it works straight away because it dont need any drivers or special software.

Yes Im obviously trying to connect to the rs32 port on "a box" nothing I try works......
