Default Dreambox hard drives...

Im after getting shot of my starview which im really disappointed with!! After a dreambox but think its a bit steep having to pay £200 for a 600 pvr and then still have to fork out for the internal hard drive. I was wondering if it is possible to just buy a 500c and use an external hard drive with it. Meaning a could get a much larger drive and cheaper. Also is there much difference between the 500c and the 600pvr apart from the internal hard drive space??
any help is much appreciated
cheers

You could look at a D-Box2 then add the IDE Interface - IDE - Interface and use a hard drive of your choice.

I use the dbox without a HD, but have a mounted drive on my PC to record/playback directly to the PC.

You can do something similar with the dreambox - ie mount a drive on your PC over the network.

The D-box is dated but very well supported and originally produced for the German market, the Dreams are custom made for the cable and satellite Market with open software. They all run on Linux, although the Dreams are pretty much all Enigma and the Dbox mostly Neutrino. I have little experience with the Dreams so couldn't tell you the difference between them.

My D-box is in another room to my PC, I run an Ethernet cable from the Dbox to my Router - it's then visible on my Network.

If you don't have a router, you can connect straight to a second Network card in your PC with a crossover cable.

You can also buy the IDE interface for the dbox and fit a hard drive to it.
