FTA101 SilverBox Help Required

New to this Digital TV bit but here goes . . .
I have a one year old FTA101 in Telewest (now Virgin Media) that only now shows BBC1,2 ITV etc. up to 3 month ago all was ok but slowley progs are now "scrambled"
I need help from anyone who can explain how to update firmware and also get channels back!
Now I have a reasonable experience in electronics and electrics and also computer literacy, just need a bit of a start, so come on guys how about imparting a little knowledge?

Make sure you have the right RS 232 1 - connect the lead to the receiver and then your computer, switch on the power to your receiver, and remember to make sure that your receiver is in off and not switched on with a channel number showing. Make sure its in stand by mode b4 you try to load the file. 2 – open software programme for your receiver and press the DOWNLOAD button. 3 - Make sure that you don’t switch off the receiver when it says 100% on the bar, wait untill a small box will pop up letting you know it’s been downloaded right. Then the receiver will re-set it self and re-boot up, and then you can un-plug and switch the power off. Don’t switch off whist flashing or your box will die 4 - Connect the receiver back up to your TV and cable feed and switch on the receiver. Goto the main menu and do a factory re-set (you may not need to just try a sky channel first), so as to return the receiver back to normal state, but don’t worry this wont do anything to your receiver; it will just make the process better and the new file. 5 - Now scan on your provider (eg telepest), and let it scan for all the channels, once finished scanning, and you have saved, goto SKY ONE and wait till the receiver updates, IE the dreaded bar percentage goes up, and then your picture should come on. send me your email and i will forward the loader and the bin file

make sure u use a stright rs232 not the newer crossover one used for the starveiw ect.
and some of you just come here dont even bother to introduce yourself can £"$% !%$

I did exactly as you said but unable to flash the box. Once again, When to switch on the box? Is it to click to download on the loader and then switch on the box?
