Default Pin fix for PACE 4001

Hi Folks
We all know that it's possible to rewrite the NVRAM on some boxes to allow the PIN facility to be activated on the new software being run by VM. The problem is the modified MAC file needs to be loaded using OCD, no problem on boxes that can be JTAG'd like the sammy 2100c or 4010 but a pain in the arse on 4001's.
Well I have been following Dalmations progress over the last few weeks on another forum and he is one trusted guy there!

He has developed a way of getting round this problem by using a modified 4010 box as a donor source for the MAC and then sending this to the 4001 by way of a SOIC clip directly onto the 4001 chip.

He has produced a step by step guide on a PDF which is damn good and I just had to share it with you 'orrible lot'.

DISCLAIMER: I have not tried this for myself, and to be honest have no intention messing with 4001's since I much prefer the 2100c, however there will no doubt be people out there which can make use of this information so go feast yourselfs.

I have uploaded it in the downloads site in the cable TV section under 'Dalmations NVRAM Trick.rar'

Hope this helps someone.

Have seen this myself too Bubba, looks real interesting he must have some serious spare time on his hands looking at the work that has gone into this. Don't think i will try it myself like you don't really like the 4001, but mainly because in my hands it looks too easy to b*lls up.

Could you not place a POMONA SOIC32 Test Clip on the CY62128 NVRAM chip you are removing at connect to the other box that way. Or have I missed something from the tut. I'm tempted to try it just out of sheer curiosity.

I dont think that would work paul as it doubles the chip up, you could try it but the clips cost 36 quid each with vat and postage.
