if its been stuck on stand by there a good chance youve lost your connection and you`ll have to phone v1rg1n up and tell them, they wont come round to the house, they`ll just reconnect you over the phone,by sending a new signal.
As the box has been stuck updating for several weeks it wont of "talked back" to v1rgin so you will of lost your connection. When ive had my subbed box unplugged for a few weeks i always have to phone them up and tell them ive been decorating LOL and they just send a new signal even though my broadband connection has been fine.

The box is brand new just out the packaging ronster, it has 0000 on the front, no i havent seen it working before. I never checked to see if i could get a menu on it as the piece of paper containing the instructions said to wait till the "Please check your cable status" could be seen before pressing the exit button on the remote and continuing to menu.

Not having had one of these Euro-vox boxes and being unfamiliar with the setup procedure i was apprehensive about pressing anything out of sequence from what was stated or before i had the "Please check your cable status" window on the screen.

This sounds a distinct possibility ronster, i am going to phone my brother and tell him to phone them to re-send a signal into his N*L box to see if that sort things out, then i can get on with trying to get the Euro-vox up and running. Just out of curiosity, IF its his N*L box itself that is knacked, would resending the signal still re-connect him? I mean if the box is knacked could it still show stuck on standby even although a new signal has been sent? If he was to replace that ntl box with say a neighbours or something would it matter.....What i am trying to say is, the N*L box and card that he was issued with from N*L is the card/box specific to that N*L box or could he stick in a neighbours box with his card s he knows for sure his neighbours box works?

you cant swop and change cards and boxes m8 as there paired to each other,if youve not tried scanning the box yet then you wont have no channels.press menu on the remote,go into installation and enter your pin 0000 probably, then do a power scan and change the mode from normal to full and wait about 30 mins for it scan.If it still dosnt receive channels then phone nthell and theyll sort the connection out.
Dont worry it wont affect the box scanning without a feed
The original box probably just froze trying to update which is quite common

reboot it m8 (unplug it) then put it on sly sports 1, for some reason it updates faster on this channel

Do you have to update each scrambled channel individualy or when the code update message appears on one channel and that channel apprears will all the other scrambled channels appear also? My box was stuck on 'updating code' for more than 30 minutes before i gave up.....I get all the other non scrambled channels although many are shaky and pixilated.....Should i switch the box off and try agan for the scrambled channels?

you only need to update the codes on 1 channel then the rest will be ok too,put it on sp1 to update as for your channels that are "shaky and pixilated"
have a read of this it should sort the problem out

Ronster thanks for the info m8 i put it on to ssport1 and it worked a treat, i am only missing a few channels that i can see rangerstv and celtictv and sentanta1 (if anyone knows how i might get these i would appreciate it) Also i want to offer a bit of advice regarding pixilated channels or jumpy picture with the chirping noice....I fixed this on all the channels (80% of them were like that) I noticed that the connector at the end of the cable connection wasn't put on properly and some of the silver paper/wiring had made contact with the copper....I took this off, fixed the connector on more securely and the picture quality is now first class on all the channels. I had tried the changing the frequency fix first with no joy before i realised the cable connection wasn't 100% tight as it should be....So anyone with a picture quality problem might want to check the cable connections are ok.....It's worth a try if your having an ongoing problem and have tried everything else.
