Default Euro-vox install problem

I have the latest Eurovox-Max 2008 box and i was trying to install it today on my brothers cable N*L/V*RG*N. my brother has both the cable and broadband package....His broadband works perfectly it comes off a seperate little 'cable modem' modem box that N*L installed before the takeover by V*RG*N.....Now the N*L box that my brother has been using has been stuck on the information setting telling him that N*L are 'updating his system and that he should not turn of the box' for some weeks now. It's obviously knackerd in some way...He didnt bother sending for the N*L guy as he knew i would be giving him this Eurovox as a pressy.....The problem is when i went to install it for him the tv would not recognise the Eurovox....On the channel where i should have seen the 'Please check your cable staus screen' all there is was a 'channel not available' message, not an N*L message this is just a message which appears on the tv if for some reason it cant find the channal...Can anyone tell me what i should be doing now? Will my brother have to first call out the N*L engineers to fix the original problem before i can continue with the setup of the Eurovov? I thought the Eurovox would install ok even although his N*L box has displayed this 'updating message' for some weeks now....Bare in mind his broadband works with no problem at all, so he has N*L coming into the home. Any help from guys who have some knowledge of this would be greatly appreciated. THanks. Dastardley.

Looks like a signal problem ~ personally, I would get the original NTHell box up & running before doing anything else.

put a splitter into the active bradband line.
run one cable to the modem and one to the eurovox.
job done

I'm slightly dubious about tampering with his active broadband line gji25 in case i knacker his internet connection in someway, i am not really up to speed on this type of thing and don't want to risk leaving him without any internet connection by my messing things up.....He's a big bloke!

I have no doubt your suggestion would work, just not confident enough that i could do the job properly. Thanks for the advice though.

I was kinda leaning toward this option myself D3LM4RT1, getting the N*L guy out first to sort the original problem. I guess i was just hoping there was an easy way of getting around the problem without having to wait for the N*L people to send an engineer out. Thanks for your input.

This problem is still ongoing jimmylynn, i am leaning toward getting the N*L engineer out to sort the original problem first and then re-trying to install the Euro-vox......Maybe someone else will chip in with a fix, or you could try the suggestion above from gji25, i just aint confident enough to go that route myself right now......baring in mind it's not my own cable or broadband connection. When/IF i do find a solution though i`ll post it up and let you know.

Get the cable guy out to fix the original box once thats done you will know the cable line is ok then put the eurovox in. if it still does not work you will know its not a signal problem as your line has been fix then you can look at other possible problems .
