Signal Strength

I've just had cable fitted to my house but they only left me with 1 socket for my broadband.
The engineers fitted an attenuator onto the coax because they said the signal was too strong.

I'm waiting on a splitter arriving but can anyone tell me if splitting my signal will reduce the strength and cause problems with the Eurovox?

remove the attenuator put in the splitter if the signal was strong putting a splitter would be ok.
But if the picture freezes and jumps put the attenuator back in and use it with the splitter
