Default Networking problem

I'm having a problem getting into one of my PC's over the network. I have several connected wired through a Biguard30 8 port router. All PC's have XP on them and all are setup the same with sharing folders allowed and all have the same Mcafee firewall with the LAN totally trusted.

Here's what's happening: from the problem PC, I can see all other PC's on the network, I can get into the shared drives and access the files as I should. From the other PC's, I can see the problem PC, but can't get into the shared drives - I get the error message that the drive is not accessible and to check with the system administrator etc and "not enough server storage is available to process this command".

As I said, all PC's are configured the same, there is plenty of RAM available on all PC's - any idea's what could be the problem?

Yes the Reg has kicked out

Hi Lincsat

Solving this problem requires a Registry edit, so to fix, - Click Start, and then click Run Type regedit, and then click OK Navigate to the following registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanmanServer\Parameters In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value. Important: If the IRPStackSize value does not already exist, you will need to create it. - In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane. - Point to New, and then click DWord Value. - Type IRPStackSize. Important: Type "IRPStackSize" exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive. Change the Base to decimal, In the Value Data box, type a value that is larger than the value that is listed. If you created the IRPStackSize value using the procedure described in step 4, the default value is 15. It is recommended that you increase the value by 3. Therefore, if the previous value was 11, type 14, and then click OK.

Close the Registry Editor.

Boot the Computer.

If the problem persists after you complete the preceding procedure, try to increase the value of IRPStackSize even more up to a maximum value for Windows XP of 50 (0x32 hex).

There wasn't an entry for IRPStackSize in any of the PC's - even the ones that interact with each other perfectly.

I have added the entry and increased the value up to 30 so far and it's not working - any other suggestions?

And here is basically what i posted first > Microsoft Support so it should work unless you have other underlying problems with that one Computer.

I've looked through the support pages and it suggests a maximum of 32 which I've tried unsuccessfully, going over 32 can cause an overflow it seems.

All the other PC's are OK without an entry at all, leading me to think the fault is elsewhere - I just love this plug & pray stuff

Just an idea have you tried taking one of the good PCs out of the loop ?, if no joy there you could disconnect the bad PC from the network and work on that one on its own.

I've even tried it on a different network - it's strange how I can get into shared folders on other PC's from this one OK, but can't get into shared folders in here from elsewhere.

This is the PC I use the most as well, fortunately most files I need to save and access elsewhere are stored on a different network drive.

As all the PCs are XP it may be an idea to re network this main PC also it may give more insight to run a HJT log on this PC and one of the others then compare the two logs because anything different with this main PC will show in its registry.

HJT Link > Hijack This

are you sure file sharing is enabled on that pc ? it sounds like it might notbe ?
but i had a similer problem befor . when i open network neighbourhood i cant see other pc's but from other PC's i can access this one.
what i have done is i tried to map a network drive. i typed the absolute path for it. like \\dellpc\NewFolder
then it connected i tried again to go through netwrok neighbourhood it didnt work.

Make a new folder in the faulty PC's C drive
share it
type on any of the other pc's \\FaultyPCName\\Sharedfoldername
hope fully you will be able to see the folder contents.
Thanks.
