Cable question

G'day guys,

I've been doing a bit of research into cable card programming and am hoping someone can answer this question for me, or at least point me in the right direction, as I've yet to come acrosss the answser. Supposing my friend has a chipped *TL box (Samsing 2100c) with provides full access viewing. I'm sure the card also has the *TL logo on it too, which I believe from research is a MOSC card (any confirmation would be great ta). I'm not sure if this card is unlocked, and if there is any way to tell. Problem is, when the card dies (not sure exactly what is technically happening here) they have to ring the guy who provided the chipped box for them and he charges a rather large fee to restore full access viewing. Sometime this has to be done several times a year. Is it possible to obtain the box key and IRD numbers by inserting their card into a card programmer, say the Infinity USB for example? If this is indeed possible, would they be able to program the card themselves using only such a card programmer?

yes.
If the card is showing the NpL Logo on it it means it is a MOSC card probably a Rom 11 or Rom 10 you can find out that by going into the Menue of the box.
any card working in the box is locked.
you can unlock it. there are two ways
Some cards can be unlocked through card programmer and couple of softwares
Some need Unlooping you need another device card Unlooper. Say T911 unlooper.
if you have a T911 unlooper you can use a Sicript to Unlock you version of the card.
First you need to find out the version of the card then you need a sicript for that version.
after unlooping the card you can read that card again in Nagra Edit.
you can get the right bk from there but you have to go to the eng menue again to to get the nagra code so you can convert it into IRD.
by unlooping the card it changes the IRD.
i Have a Dynamite programmer and T911 Flashed with new firmware.
i can unloop any Rom card .

Many thanks for the reply, greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to establish what equipment is required for the job. From what I understand, I need the box key and IRD to write an image to a card. I know this information can be obtained from JTAG'ing, but I'm guessing I don't need to use this method if the card is unlocked and readable by a card programmer? Don't want to invest in two pieces of equipment that essentially will do the same job

Can you advise how I can get the card version and how I find out if the card can by unlooped using hardware or software.

got into the Eng Menue and scroll through all the pages look for the text ROM10 or Rom11 Rev ... something.
on that page it will also tell you the Amount of the card it might be £ 5150
and card status as well.
i can't tell you for sure that your card can be unlocked in programmer. there are two programms XNCS in which you can dump the card an read it in Nagra edit.
id the card can not be unlocked this way then you have to unloop it...! but its better to buy a JTAG and get the information quickly and efficiently and you might need it for watching sky movies in future..
