Question hi there just need a little help

hi to everyone on this site hope everyones having a good day, i just was wondering if someone could help me i'm extremely new to all this and i've just been brought a starview 2 box from a friend the software doesn't seem to work and only some channels work can someone point me in the right direction. hope to hear from someone soon thanks for reading this message

check your firmware and flash the newest one onto box

try re-scanning for channels. format menu on box first then do a clean install of channels should do the job if not you will need to upgrade using the software in downloads sections and a rs232 null modem cable
