Default Buffalo Router Probs

hI!

i HAVE A BUFALO WHR 54S ROUTER & AM TRYING TO US IT TO PUT MY KIDS PC ON A WIRELESS NETWORK.
I BOUGHT A RECEIVER(USB DONGLE) AND HAVE INSTALLED IT UPSTAIRS IN THEIR PC.
THE PROBLEM I SEEM TO HAVE...IS EVERY TIME I FOLLOW THE STEPS TO LINK MY PC TO THE ROUTER THE LIGHTS ON THE BACK OFF THE ROUTER(WERE U PUT THE ETHERNET CABLE FROM MY PC TO THE ROUTER) STAYS SOLID.
IT SAYS IT FLASHES WHEN IS RUNNING PROPERLY.
I HAVE An external modem and have 20 meg broadband....it works perfectly from the modem to my pc via the ethernet cable...the internet is always on.
everytime i connect the router up it wont work....
im left frustrated & scratching my head.

Please...if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

thanks in advance ...George

(sorry for the caps.)

Hi dhallstar

You need to connect via Ethernet Cable - Network cable - RJ-45 to setup first, please see basic instructions here > Wireless Setup

Post Re: Buffalo Router Probs

I had the same prob's when I was installing someone else's buffalo.

I had to do the following to get it to work.

Run Ethernet cable from modem to router.

Set-up laptop via ethernet into router.

restart the modem (leaving router off)
turn on router and login via the laptop.

It normally takes about 2 mins for the router to get to outside world.

Then you can set-up wireless security and connect up wireless.

I've found that if you unplug the ethernet cable from the modem (i.e home pc) and plug in another item (I.e. laptop) without restarting the modem it wont allow the laptop to access the internet so you have to restart the modem.

I know this is a bit late but hopefully it might help someone in the future if they havbe the same trouble as we did.
