This is same problem I've got.
problem is libby is not recognising the box, just pace on the front?

if the pace 1000 is a very old one and not been on the stream for years it will still have pre cr software on it.....now libby will not set your net id if its pre cr... you will have to use a test simm or a net id card (net id card providing you have the boxkey)

you also say it did an update then did err4 then tried another update??
if so the box is in an update loop ..not much can be done here apart from removing and reprogramming the atmels with a good 1000 dump from another box
