i know some people cancel there broadbanb then use a modded modem and they have been doing it for ages

How come when I connect my Modded 250 Modem to my Belkin G+ MIMO Router, I don't get internet ??

I thought these modified modems worked on Networks ? When I use my legit modem everything works fine !!

These modems do work on networks, it may be that your router has not detected the change of modem. Also the modem will pair itself with the network device it's attached to, so if you have had it connected to the PC, then connect to a router, you need to re-boot the modem first.

Try re-booting the modem first, then re-boot the router and see if that works. You may want to go into the router configuration page and see if you can change the network address (also called a MAC address) just to be on the safe side.

I am on 20meg with virginmedia, if i ask them to put me on 4meg instead of 20 meg and lets say they will do it, Would they change the mac address or use the same one ! Would i be able to use the old mac address on the patched modem to get 20 meg!!! i dont know if what i am asking makes sense or not! Well i am new to this and would like some help.

The MAC address is like an electronic serial number for your modem - the mac would stay the same regardless of which service you are on.

Hi

You can ask for your MAC (Migration Access Code) from your present ISP (Internet Service Provider) if you decide to move to a different service, this came in to effect as of last valentine's day February 14th 2007, so you no longer have to stay with a service your not happy with

yes you can i believe but am not sure about virgin, even if u did where would u move cuz virgin is the only cable service provider here!!!
