Default Taking out a subscription...

Hi Folks,

First of all, apologies in advance if this the wrong place to put this post...

I reside in a home where there is a whitebox on the wall, and two cables popping out of it.

We've established what the purpose of these are

My question however is related to taking out a subscription with v!r**m£d!@ ....

I've got a BT line, and an 8meg ADSL from plusnet..

Can i switch lines (I'll get a free tv if i do I'm told), to v!r**m£d!@ but still keep my number and still get ADSL from plusnet?

If anyone has switched their lines from BT and is still using ADSL then great!

Unless of course internet from v!r**m£d!@ is better than ADSL, or can be "made" better than ADSL....

Ta,

If you switch your line to VM, you will lose the ability to get ADSL - you must have an active BT line for ADSL.

VM's phone is very expensive, but the internet is quite good. I would consider the 2 for £20 service with Internet and TV, then keep your BT line for emergency use and fallback only.

To make cheap phone calls get a VOIP package like the £2 per month offer from VOIP.co.uk - your calls are then free after 6pm and at weekends, daytime calls are 2p for an hour. You get another incoming number, caller display, voicemail and all the trimmings too

Hi Lincsat!

Many thanks for your excellent response.

I'll look to explore the options in detail tonight (will be saddened to give up plusnet, but i'm sure there are other compensations )

For the time being a question have arisen that I hope you can help answer...

I saw a deal on the vendor's site that sorts out 2M broadband at £4.50 pm, if taken with a phone £11 pm (which means free TV size M!).

Now, I can part company with my BT & ADSL if I can "uncap" the broadband... i saw a modded modem thread somewhere, does that do the trick?

If so, I'm taking out a cable package, and cancel my BT and ADSL line asap!

I think you can get top download speed, depends on where you are 10meg or even 20meg.

it doesn't matter what speed you have it open it to the max for your area mine is 20mb but you never get that even with a modded modem but you sill get about 17mb

That's it then, it's decided

I'll make some calls tonight and see what my cable vendor has on offer...

Out goes analogue TV, BT and ADSL

In comes cable, phone (will used VIOP thanks to Lincsat!), and cable-broadband thanks to reddiesel!

.......

Lincsat, i noticed you had a cable-modem for sale on your thread "general-for-sale-trade-and-wanted"... do you have any available?

Ta.

That's simply fantastic... Thank you Steve.

I do have a question regarding metrics however... With plus net, there was a console that provided you with net usage etc, and were notified if you came close to exceeding monthly limit.

Won't this happen with cable provider if they see a massive surge with what you should have, and what you actually have?

Cheers!
