Hi Mike

Setting up a Router is not hard "was you thinking of Cable or Wireless ?, as for an Anti Virus there are man but one that is good and free is Avast you can download it > Here, your slow speed will most likely be due to software but we can go through your Home Hub settings after your up and running with your new software

Hi am downloading Avast 4 Home now (I think that is the right one). It is downloading at 50kbps ... so that shows the problems I am having.

Once I have then I am ready to swap from Norton.

Are you ready to lead the way!?!

Cheers
Mike

Hi Annabel,

Impressive stuff (speed wise) have to admt I don't undertsand the clever iT bits behind it. Way beyong me.

If you can get that on BT then what I still don't get is how come I have a speed test actual download of 4.5-6mbps but then download from Dell at 60kbps.

Why don't you have a go at Dell and see what download speed you get .... the site is
support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
then I have a Notebook, Inspiron, 9400 ..then I am tring to downlad the the wireless update (last option in the list) which is about 56mb (if I remember right). I get a transfer rate of 50-60kbps (max).

If you are on BT (as I am) and it is their Server then you should get a slow download as well .... shouldn't you? If you don't then that should shut BT up using that excuse.

What I also don't get is that other people using BT Hub (as I am) must be getting decent download speeds (videaos, updates, etc.) or there would be uproar(!?).

Thanks for the help .... is there more we can do?
Mike

Anyway .... did you manage to access the Win Audit

Hi mrm.c

OK i DL the last on the list "see picture"

And it took 1 second "see picture"

I did not receive the e mail from You Send It, can you try again because i think you have running apps that are blocking (i know that AVG Free can knock off about 3MB if your running the BT Home Hub), so i need to see whats installed that could be affecting your speed.

Thanks for helping me much appreciated

Hi Mike, sorry bit late

Hope you don't mind but one or two things you could do with getting rid of on your system

1) Google Desktop Search (just make a google link) 2) Real Tray / Real Player (there are much smaller better players) 3) Adobe Reader (30MB of stumbling Dinosaur, use Foxit post No 10 > Freeware Tools, 4) BT Broadband Desktop Help (big systems hog "please dump it !") - i will PM you the Direct to the Broadband engineers 0800 Number "but don't tell anyone" , and lastly turn off Indexing Service - How To post No 6 > Speed up your box, let me know how it goes please hun.

Hi Ann,

Will do .... I assume I just go into Programs and Remove??

My sister is on BT using a Voyager 205 via ADSL .... she has a configured speed of 4mbps and test speed of 3.5mbps but can download from Dell at 6-7 times my speed .... and she has Norton and the other bad stuff on her system ..... is there something else that could be wrong in how the machine is out together ... or wouldn't I get the fast test speeds.

My web browsing seems ok its just the downloading bit.

Anyway, will do those action points () tomorrow and let you know the outcome.

See ya
Mike
