Mike i have a 205 Router "not in use ATM" and its a better Router then the Home Hub, BT give the Hub updates some nights between 1 - 4 am and I'm told that if your on line as a update is installed your band width goes way down and quite often you loose connection !, for some reason BT love junk !, and do remember you are on wifi, the Home Hub is made by Thomson , but we will try to get the best speed possible for you

PS PM you that phone number

Hi Mike

I think there is only one other thing to do and thats change the Router, as you said your sister gets a good speed with a 205, TBH the Hub is not the best and has had problems from its start, have a look on line for a Voyager Wireless as it will be compatible with your BT package "eg" the 2110

Thanks Ann

Downloaded something from BT today and got 300kbps .... best speed I have had! but I should get faster for a 5mbps actual line speed .... shouldn't I.

Also a quick one on wireless drivers and modems .... I seem to have Intel Proset Wireless but also another wireless driver that has been on (e.g. could it be a windows one). What do the Wirelss and the drivers do and how do I know which one to use?

Also the Intelone is saying the current Intel Driver does not support the Intel Wireless and needs upgrading ...???

Will look at the voyager. Am away for a couple of weeks from next week (a Portugal beach for me).... so will leave you in peace .... then let you know how it goes towards mid sept after I am back. I also have a pal who knows about this stuff and he has offered to come and have a look .... so he can make sure it's not me being daft.

Cheers Annabel. You've been a star.
ps Is there a good starter guide to computers and this sort of thing .... I don't mean the software like Word, etc. but what all these things are .... drivers, hubs, modems, etc.
pps Is there any freeware for Windows Excel .... I just need to convert an excel spreadsheet so I can read it.

And thanks again .... very patient.

If you look in device manager it will tell you what drivers you are using, as learning about Computers "start simple" How stuff works > PCs, On line Excel converter > Here

Something that may help Mike as you have the newer version of the BT Home Hub, this is the latest on Port forwarding the Hub > The Hub

I'm sorry but I REALLY need to add this, I really really don't like BT, i moved into a new apartment this weekend and they refused to give me my phone number, I think it's because I told them that I do NOT want to get broadband with them, been looking at Compare broadband providers and cheap broadband internet deals - moneysupermarket.com for some idea of what to go for, but, there's alot of negativity on reviews apart from the less known ISP. But at the end of the day, this is just a rant and I just want to make people aware (for those who don't already know) BT will make it very very very difficult for you to switch and the BT homehub, in my opinion is a waste of money too, sorry but what is the difference with the homehub, and say, having an external hard drive that you back up all your files?

Again I apologize for being so negative......
