Default What to do when cant find transponders

Eurovox Max 2008 isnt finding transponders .. it did at one stage, now it doesnt. Latest version of software is on it apparently.

Does that mean I am going to have to hook it up to a computer and copy across some files or something? How straight forward is that? Are there any other alternatives.

I have restored factory settings a few times, but never cracked open the box to press its reset switch.

Dont know what area I am in, but when I hooked the line from wall socket to TV, I got a very fuzzy "Virgin Media" logo .. if that is any clue?

Try the obvious first - clear out your old channel data, then do a full powerscan. If nothing comes up change your symbol rate to either 6952 or 6887 depending on which one your defaulting to.

And in anwer to your earlier post - cable wire is like speaker wire -it should be high quality with no joins/splits in order to achieve the best results. I read somewhere that joining two cables together with standard (premoulded) connectors (as you are doing) loses more signal than joining two cables with a decent splitter.

Cheers Rick

I have deleted all old channel data, and then restored to fatory settings, then rescanned on full scan, but it comes up with TP : 000 all the time, and finds nothing.

I have tried resetting factory settings to both 6952 as well as 6887 because I am not sure which I should be using.

I am also now using 5 metres of JVC Video Satellite Aerial cable .. so I dont think the wiring is the problem ..

When the signal jumps to 98% in a scan, does that mean it has found a channel? It does this LOTS while scanning, but nothing is saved when the scan is complete, it seems to just drop back to the installation screen without any channels / transponders there

Im totally stuck .. and yep .. gets frustrating. Sorry for all the questions .. you can try dumbing it down for me as much as you like

Im in Langley, near Slough / Heathrow

Changing that value only means it scans closer to channels doesnt it? Not transponders? At the moment, its not picking up transponders as far as I can tell, but that doesnt mean a lot to me (a noob!!!)

have you checked the cable feed to see if its live.
what package have you got ?
you dont say if you have cable/broadband
you need a working cable feed to use the eurovox.
if you have no feed it wont pick up any transponders

Woohoo .. some awesome feedback there gji25

have you checked the cable feed to see if its live. - I was told if I plug it in to the TV, and you can see the basic channels, that you have a live line. I did this, reported back that its a pretty fuzzy reception, and it picks up a channel with the Virgin Media sign on it and someone said "Your line is live .. now you just need a box"

what package have you got ? - This is most likely where I am going wrong. I checked before buying this if I need cable or broadband connected, and I was told that I didnt have to have it I went ahead and bought the box on this premise

you dont say if you have cable/broadband - Dont have either .. just an ADSL internet connection with good old Tiscali. ie. useless for cable TV

you need a working cable feed to use the eurovox. - NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooo .. why wasnt I told this before. Going to have to contact the seller (Mark on this forum) and call on the 7 day refund he claimed he would give .. OR fork out a monthly sum .. which I didnt want to do anyway, all I wanted was Setanta Sports

if you have no feed it wont pick up any transponders - It seemed to pick up transponders the first scan when I unpacked it, came up with 25 or 28 or something .. but it wouldnt do anything after that, wouldnt pick up / store channels.

Im pretty disappointed now .. me thinks I have forked out £115 for nothing, unless I now go ahead and get cable internet or something

You need to be thinking along the lines that nothing is for free, like you Ive read on these threads about people who hve plugged into so called dead sockets and got the Euro-vox to work, who is to say they havent ? I would say they have just been lucky....it would depend on the way the Virgin engineers have left the connection after ceasing transmition on that line....maybe the odd one or two were never even ceased,it happens, and those lines were still transmitting...who knows ? I would say to you that you need at least some sort of paid connection to Virgin for this to be guaranteed to work properly,at least the basic tv subscription might be a good idea, its a fact of life you get what you pay for, and if you dont pay anything the chances are you aint going to get anything.....a basic sub plus the Euro-vox will give you quite a lot..... 200 plus channels (in my case 238) including all the sports channels plus all the movie channels....I think its a bargain, what more could you ask for ?

just a thought, but if your getting the v1rgin lolgo all be it fuzzy you must have some sort of signal...nip down to argos and get a signal booster,if that dont work take it back to argos under the 16 day guarantee.

I dont expect anything for free, thats why I forked out £115 for the Eurovox instead of getting a years subscription to Satanta I thought it was too good to be true when I was told "as long as your line is live".

I dont mind one bit subscribing to V!rg!n Broadband Internet, means I can finally get rid of Tiscali ADSL. Sometimes you just need a bit of a nudge before you jump .. hehe

I have posted this question on another forum, and some dude replied last night saying he has installed many in places without broadband packages of any kind .. might try connecting the satellite cable straight to the line in the wall, before the splitter.
