from what i have herd the comen rail system dont like any form of bio fuels from std vegge oil all the way so pro refined bio diesel.
there can be meny problems with cars running on bio fuels from troble handling the thickness of it when its cold trough to it effecting the rubber seals and hoses.

good rule of thumbe is if its an inline or simlar style to a bosh pump you will be fine but stay clear if its commen rail or lucas style.

i think this is the site you are looking for http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/...base/index.php

i see now that morisons supermarkets are now selling e85 (85% ethanol 15% petrol) @ some of thair petrol stations (mostly in the south west) so some of the new cars out can run on (like saab).

i was thinking this woul be also useful in producing your own biodiesel as ethanol is one of the main thing you need to buy and it can be tricky and expensive to get hold of.

any one know if the petrol would be a problem? im sure it would work fine still

Common rail is very very sensitive, specially in toyota's. Dont like bio or dyed diesel.

hey baz-r, isn't there a difference between methanol and ethanol? I thought they used methanol in bio-diesel production.

Only methanol can be used for making Bio-diesel.

Really good site here vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/index.php

I ran an 06 megane 1.9 DCI 130, with the FAP filter too on bio for 15k miles. Got about 10mpg extra, engine was quieter and smoother. Top speed was increased 5mph but 0-60 accel was a little slower as it doesn't burn quite as fast. Has more oxygen in the molecules though, so yields more energy, hence power.

Also run our 02 nissan x-trail 2.2di just fine.

VW pd engines don't like it much though as the fuel system runs at such high pressure, the bio actually breaks down.

funny thats not what i understood!
when i studyed alterntive fuel while doing automotive engineering/eletronics at collage the only info at the time i could find was from some investitions in california on the conversion of veg oil to a fuel for the use in diesel using ethanol and potasium hydroxide back in thye 70's
that was 10 years ago mind

i also understood that there was a few reasons that methanol is used over ethernol like the uk duty rate, quality of reaction.etc
