Default Best Freeview PVR for Partially sighted user ???

Hi Folks,

My old mum, a retired scientist approaching 80 years young, has had Shingles in her one eye and it has greatly impaired her
vision.

She is currently going through the motions of upgrading her TV in preparation for the UKs "Digital Switch off" and has found a 37" JVC TV that she found particularly easy to see (better contrast range than the majority she has seen in other shops apparently)

I have explained (at great length / in great detail !) that once the digital switch off occurs she will be limited in how she can use her existing analogue video recorder with her new TV. She specifically wants to retain the ability to schedule recordings across multiple channels.

I clarified that (to the best of my knowledge) that no-one is making freeview VCRs, and that this is unlikely to change. and that to keep this facility she will need to invest in a PVR.

The trouble is, all of these new PVRs depend upon an OSD (on screen display) and mum has great trouble reading them . To put it into perspective, on analogue TV she has to put the teletext on Large (1/2 screen per view) and has to sit about 5 feet away from the TV to read it.

So is there a PVR which has a VERY large font for the OSD ? and ideally a very high contrast menu system too, that is simple to use , ideally with a remote control which has fewer buttons as well.

I should add that If I was to mention the AD service in mums presence, I would get a rude retort similar to "I am NOT blind , and I do NOT need that facility" so I don't want to go there!!!

Personally I am a Topfield owner so if there is a TAP which gives the EPG / menu a very large font this would be an advantage as I can "talk her through" any difficulties over the phone.

Can I ask though please - when you reply - Please include why you think "model X" would be best suited for her as its all too easy to get into a "mines better than yours" flame war which I want to avoid at all costs ! ;-)

Many thanks in advance

Regards
BB
