My dear old mum has decided she is getting rid of her V*r*in account and cable box. She has terminated her contract and the guy is coming around next week to take the cable box back. Her phone line is now with BT. She has found paying for V*rg*n cable just a bit too much for her, plus she was getting confused with all the bumf they were sending her through the door, the bills etc. I thought i would get her a Eurovox as a pressy. Will she still need some sort of subscription to V*rg*n though for the box to work or should i pick up the channels as long as there is still some sort of line left coming into her house? Just want to be 100% sure before i fork out the cash for a box for her.

You will get the channels only if the cable is still live, you cable may still be live even if you have cancelled your subscriptions depending on the way V*rg*n cut your feed.
To see if your cable is still live simply plug your cable into the back of your tv, if you recieve the first five channels then your feed is still live and you will recieve all the channels. If not you will need a subscription of some kind. If your feed has been disconnected I would have suggested keeping your phoneline with V*rg*n which would entitle you to the free basic package but you say that she has already changed over to BT. The cheapest way to get them to reactivate your feed would probably be to sign up to the £5 a month tv package then connect your eurovox via a splitter. |

I am in the same boat (moved into a house with a cancelled cable connection).
Providing the feed is still live and you connect the box, are v*r*n able to tell a box is connected? I simply want to use it for the freeview channels as it gives a better picture than the aerial on the roof. |

your box will still be able to recieve all the free to air progs as cable have no way of turning them channels off as they are mainly bbc and you pay your tv licence !!! one way to make sure they cant do any thing is to unplug the card free to air still active

well it depends on how they cut you off i know of some cases all they do is actually cut the wire outside but you can always re attach it via a splitter from outside and as long as the wire is active and not been disconnected from their side then it will work. some people who have the boxes but no subscription to cable may notice the waire out side if you take the outer case off it has been cut but all you do is attach a splitter and as long as thats all they did it will work
as far as i know they always send signals down the wire and euro vox doesnt report back to them so i dont think they would be able to find out |

Hi, I am a new user and a beginner. I have a live Virgin connection but I am not using it as I have Sky. What cable box should I buy so that I can get all the channels, including the subscription channels. Is it possible. Sorry if it is a silly question, but I havn't a clue about cable.
Thanks in Advance |
