Default A STB Box query

Hello all.

This wont be (i hope) a repeat of most posts on any forum about cable boxes

I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to avoid asking to many questions and using Google and other forums as from my research most questions tend to be "WHAT BOX IS BEST LOL???!!!111"

So...having come at this knowing nothing what so ever and keeping my head down and trying to figure out what’s best for me i thought id post here and ask a question or 2.

I am after a cable box the Eurovox looked to me (a new starter) the best option. All I want to do is buy a box press scan and watch TV, I simply don’t have time to play around with any fancy options and i use my Xbox media centre to stream my movie/mp3s to my TV so im after a simple enough box.

So i asked around for the best place to get a eurovox 2008 (haven’t had a reply just yet) but then i discover it cant do widescreen, this seems to me a major issue - i then read about a new critical update for the box to stop it going dead on people...so needless to say i was put off for now. Perhaps in a few firmware versions I will go for it but the widescreen issue wont go away.

So i then went wondering off to find another box from the popular choices (dbox/fta/starview/thebox/etc) after a bit of reading it seems they will all do what i want.

The next issue to hit me is autorolling features to get around any cable TV encryption. Seems the boxes i was looking at (eurobox and starview/thebox) offer limited decryption options... So the search continued.

A few hours of reading and googling later i discover something called made by itgate it’s the "tgm220"

While this seems to be more expensive and harder to purchase it does seem future proof (i hope) and work round any encryption issues.

So basically does anyone have any experience with the TGM220?

Or am i worrying to much about decryption issues? and should simply get any of the boxes and get over my worries?

I appreciate any advice I have learnt a lot from u lot

Thanks in advance.

Conditional Access Module - basically the bit that does the decoding. In all the boxes it is an emulator, rather than a proper CAM (and Card) - my latest D-Box image has 4 different ones to choose from.
