Default 3-way splitter query

hi all,

apologies if i'm being dumb but have a splitter query! got a eurovox, cable modem & sub box through a 3 way splitter and all was working fine for the last month or so.

y'day the broadband went down (flashing light where should've been a solid one) but worked fine when i bypassed splitter and fed direct into it. then later that afternoon i plugged it all back in and the broadband worked but the picture on both tv feeds was crackly and stuttery (in fact sub one was practically non existent).

each one works fine when directly connected (tested each one) so i then connected the tele box & broadband with the original 2 way splitter v*rgn gave me and all's well with those two.

this may well be blatantly obvious to the more tecchy amongst you but am i right in thinking it could be a fault with the 3 way splitter? i didn't think the signal needed boosting as it worked with this set up previously for the past month or so......

the 3 way splitter is a quamtex 3 way but was pretty cheap.

any help gratefully received before i either try out another 3 way splitter or plump for a £25 booster from argos!!

cheers!!

i'd just get a 3way booster it will sort this out and any later signal fluctuations
i use this one and never had any problem since

Buy One For All Singal Booster. at Argos.co.uk

make sure you get one with the gain knob so you can get a perfect signal for you

You can't run a modem or subscribed box through one of those Argos Amps, they have no return path. You would need one of the Yellow cable amps off ebay for that.

thanks for the info guys - i'll look into the yellow cable amp then & let you know!

was hoping not to spend £25 extra & just try a new splitter but all things considered its still good value in the end!

I do have 3 way splitters in the shop @ £3 plus delivery. It may be that just replacing the splitter will do the job, but no guarantees.

most odd - connected it all back up and worked fine in the evening. same thing happened a couple of days later (again in the afternoon) so had to connect broadband direct. connected it all back up in the eve and it works fine again.

could it be something to do with a lower signal during the day (ie when most people are at work)?

I find a lower signal when hot, higher signal when cool(er)
