download and install skype and instead of paying around £30 for a hole year just for a number to use for incoming calls e.g you will have a land line number the way around it is to also add skype pro to your service which will cost you around £1 for a hole month to get better services from skype and once you have done this then buy your number and you will find it only costs you around £8 big saving then cancell your skype pro and use the service as normal

Main high street names you would have heard of include Sipgate and Tesco. Their charges tend to be higher, Tesco also comes with a 30sec min. call charge. Voiptalk and Draytel basically use the same network (same wholesaler), I use Draytel myself, billed by the sec and no hidden cost. You won't get 1p a min. to india, the cheapest is about 7p. I know a lot of people use phone cards when calling India. You will have to compare prices. You can also use any voip account with a wifi mobile, e.g. connect to your wireless LAN at home (no need to turn the pc on) or down the pub, basically anywhere where you have an internet connection. If you prefer to use your existing phone (e.g. dect cordless), you will have to buy an ATA (analogue telephone adapter). In this setup, you will also have the advantage to continue to receive incoming calls via your existing landline, but any outgoing calls can use the cheaper voip option (configurable). If you look around, there are many more providers around than you realise.

You can call India for 1p per min from a BT landline. There used to be one for half a penny, but I am not sure if it still works..
