You will also need a null modem cable to use in conjuction with the USB serial port adapter.
Null modem info here Maplin > Serial Null Modem 9-Pin Female to 9-Pin Female Basically you plug the USB serial port adapter into the pc you then plug the null modem cable into this and then into the eurovox. All you do then is put the Eurovox in standby select the file you have and press download, (no loader required anymore). It may say flash update failed but this is just a glitch and it should update either way. |

from what I have read the updates do not appear to have a great deal of influence or effect on the box, so wouldn't worry to much about doing it unless its going wrong.

@marko-eurovox
Hi mate, you said you bought your stuff from maplins? I'm also planning to go there today to buy a USB-serial adapter and a null modem cable (4 computers and not a single serial port between them....). Did you manage to get the maplins components to work? Only there's another thread in this forum where someone said that the maplins null modem cable didn't work. @ everybody else: anyone else know specifically what type of null modem cable is required? eg. can I use a really basic one with just flow control cross-wired? Does the flashing program or DnUpMan have software flow control, in that case? The reason I ask is that I have the wires to solder a very simple null modem cable (without full handshaking etc), but not enough wires for a full-blown one, and would therefore need to pay a £10 (ish) to maplin's or my local component shop. £10 saved is a (very small) round at the pub! (i realise I can get one cheaper online, but I'm a very impatient person...) |

A null-modem lead is just a crossover cable, with the in's wired to the out's.

Thanks lincsat,
So its just Rx<-Tx, Tx->Rx and GND? excellent. I think I can manage that. I have one 4-core serial cable and a spare female 9-pin D-sub head. Time to get chopping and soldering. ![]() Last edited by CrackMouse; 31-10-07 at 08:34 PM. |
