Default remote control of the dbox?

I heard somewhere that you can control the dbox over LAN. is this true, is it also in any way possible to remove view the dbox output over lan. Im thinking thats a longshot but whatever. and last but not least is it possible to use the dbox as a true media player playing files from standard windows shares on other pcs? If it is what file types is it possible to play?

thanks in advance for any help.

Once the network is setup, type the D-Box's IP address in your Internet browser to access it, eg http://192.168.100.125

This brings up an application called yweb, from there you can change channel, view the EPG, view TV (so long as the correct plugins are installed), sort channels and backup and restore settings.

You can play MP3's and Video TS files directly from a mounted folder, you can stream video from your PC to the D-Box with an application called VLC (instructions in the tut's in the download section).

Hope that helps

Thanks a lot, that was really helpfully, unfortunatly I am having a bit of trouble still. I have got the stream setup but for some reason im getting no sound. I am connecting through the ip of the dbox using the vlc plugin for firefox. Imgetting perfect picture but no sound at all. I cant find any settings that I can change on the dbox for this and im guessing any changes to the vlc player apply only to that not the plugin. Is this a common problem? I have tried googling it but come up blank.

ok I am a bit further now. I can get the stream working in firefox, but some channels are missing sound, others dont appear at all (despite being fine when played normaly) Its like im missing codecs but I assume that its all being streamed in the same format so I dont get how that could happen. Please can someone point me in the right direction as I really want to get this sorted, its a really good feature.

I find with SPTS mode off, it works almost every time. Sometimes doesn't like fast switching from 1 channel to another, you may have to re-start Firefox.

Are you using the latest stable VLC?

I downloaded it from the vlc official site so im guessing its the latest build (im not at home atm to check the version number).

I tried turning off SPTS mode (what is it?) but it didnt make any difference. I have noticed that the channels I can't see tend to be the locked channels, they play fine on the tv but when I stream it shows missing audio or video or both. I can play bbc and so on fine. Is there any chance that its something to do with the cam?

Your right about it not liking fast channel switching, or even general switching, i find that I can switch 4/5 times then the dbox locks up and needs resetting by pulling the plug out, it wont even let me back into the yweb screen.

You could also try changing ucodes, that can make a difference.

I was going to ask about this, what are ucodes? I found a menu setting with about 5 files under a ucodes header. I am not sure which im using atm or which i should be using, or even how I use them. I feel like such a noob with this

Ucodes are like video drivers, favourites are 0014 and 001A - you usually need 0014 for using SPTS mode with an encrypted channel and 001A for non-SPTS mode.

All D-Boxes seem slightly different on what they like best, so try them all and see which works best.
