Not sure what planet you've been living on recently. The whole public battle between VM and Sky was over Sky wanting more money for Sky one, 2,3, and Sky sports news.
VM wouldn't pay so the channels were pulled.
The major publicity surrounded the loss of Sky one channels "Lost" and "24" but Sky Sports News was also a casualty - it is on Freeview though if you have that.

The dispute only concerned Sky 1,2,3 and Sky Sports News.
Sky Movies is a whole new kettle of ball games.

The battle was over the Sky basic channels, they were part of a separate agreement to the Sky premium channels.

Virgin1 is due to launch on Monday, that's a general Entertainment channel to rival Sky1 (it will replace ABC1), there should also be a sports news channel soon.
