computer spec:
my friend had this system for about two years, or less before i bought it from him: he did replace some of the fans & the video card! issue: today i tried to power on the computer and one i say some fan light came on then it just turned off! and comp won't power on again. i shut the computer manually by holding the power botten all this week, so i did it about 6times. since my vista would get stuck at shut down i had no other option, some time how ever i pressed the reset button and as soon as it got to boot screen i powered it off, and that is what i did last! old things that can be useful info:
things i tested:
1. cpu fan, well there is one installed on top of it and it's connected same way as other fans! but i think it was not working, gonna try it in a MIN and reply agAIN! 2. motherboard has a yellow power light, and it's on, so the motherboard is not fry, nor is the power supply! as i think. 3. i don't know how to "reset cmos jumper," but i will Google it up! thanks |

2. no beeps at all! the only thing that is on is the motherboard power light, and my power supply does have a power button, which is obviously on the back! 3. mother board: A8N-SLI Deluxe socket 939 could power botton fry by chance too, how can i test that, sicne it's power source coming from teh motherboard, i think! important: there is no pin in CLRTC, to clear cmos, i mean there is not even pin in defuilt postation, can that be a problem, and wherer can i buy the pin. also i do have some ATA hd black pins that are used to set it to master and slave can be used , not sure if it will fit! thank you Last edited by Kakashii; 07-10-07 at 10:57 PM. |

Hi Kakashii
![]() Just been looking at your Motherboard and the CMOS battery and CMOS reset jumper are located just to the right of the lower 2 USB 2.0 headers, and i would only use the proper jumper, you may be able to get one from stores like Maplin, as for you Power supply (PSU) disconnect the Motherboard cable and see if an optical drive tray will open ?

first is it really bad for not having CLRTC jumper pin! there, i am gonna try to remove the battery to reset teh jumber will remove it for a hour, but i guess you only need to switch the CLRTC pin if you only want to clear the CMOS!
"as for you Power supply (PSU) disconnect the Motherboard cable and see if an optical drive tray will open ?" secondly and last thing: waht you mean by above, you mean diconnect teh power to teh motherboard and try to see if my cd/dvd rom will get power or not! right! thanks for your reply! lol |

unplug the power to the motherboard, the cd/dvd drives should still get power from the psu to open and close if not then the psu is the problem.
i usually go through each item until i find the faulty part psu, mem, graphics card etc |

flickering lights could be down to the psu being faulty.
good psu makers Antec, Tagen, Enermax, OCZ etc before you buy 1 though see if you can borrow 1 just to make sure thats the problem. just because a psu has a high watt rating doesn't mean it can handle well under load so the better the quality the less likely to fail better voltage rails etc. i alway try to buy the best i can, you get what you pay for usually become true at some point don't just buy 1 take time to read up on the good ones and find out the pros and cons. a good psu can last for years the low quality ones usually a lot less the light on the mb could still be powered by the psu even if it is faulty it won't need much to power it , even after disconnecting power some leds stay on for some time Last edited by grizz; 08-10-07 at 02:23 AM. |

a 200 watt psu probably won't be enough for that system i'd try something higher, you don't want to kill the rest of the stuff also the 200watt might not even have the right power connections for the board.
a faulty psu can cause lock ups with windows etc before they eventually fail i wouldn't use vista myself yet due to lack of driver support ![]() that and i've only just recently installed xp after years of win2k ![]() as for the screws on the mb well i never use em all just enough to make sure the board is secure
