Hi there tech heads, I'm new to this site, so excuse any mistakes, and apologies for my direct approach, but I'm beginning to run out of patience with my non functioning car stereo, and didn't know who to ask next.
It's a Philips 22DC710/60B model fitted to an R reg Rover 820i-according to rover its the R960 stereo option. My brother borrowed my battery to get his old toyota going, but in doing so, disabled my stereo, which is now waiting for the right code. I called the previous owner who reckoned the 4 digit number was written in the original paperwork, or on the top of the stereo itself. I couldn't find it, and don't think he had a clue anyhow, so, I rang the original dealership number, and got thru to a very helpful dear from the service dept, who confirmed the reg and gave me a four digit code that she was sure would work. 4981 was inputted several times, the delay between entering doubling on each attempt. I've now managed to advance the delay to over an hour between events, so am beginning to give up. The serial number pressed into the side of the casing is RG710FV1017896 and there's a red herring 6 digit no scrawled in felt tip on the top; 254527. I don't trust handing £ to strangers on ebay for codes that could be pie in the sky, and don't won't to hassle the woman at SMC Slough, in case she had the wrong code on her system. As for downloading programs to work it out for you, I don't have much knowledge or faith. So, here I am hoping that some hero out there can shed a little light on the matter, or work out the code for me. Beginning to remind me of the Enigma code crackers, which was the advent of computers. Seems appropriate to use the end result to decipher a problem similar to its origins. All the best, Peter |
