Default Patching question

Hello all.

Is it possible to patch a receiver through the RS232 port?

Cheers

Depends on the receiver - most are patched through the RS232 port.

Thanks lincsat,

It's just that I've been led to believe that patching can only be done through a USB port.

So, If it's possible to patch via the RS232, what is the USB port good for?

Cheers

What receiver are you talking about? The new TM receivers, you can patch by RS232 or USB, you can also record onto a Hard Drive via USB. Most other receivers with a USB port, you can only use the USB for viewing Pictures or playing music

Thanks lincasat.

I haven't got any receiver in mind at the moment. Although I'm following a few on e-bay. At the moment I just trying to find out what the possibilities are. I've now found out, thanks to you, that it's possible to patch via a USB port and the RS232. I think that this is a small but important detail as this affects the price and what you expect from a receiver.

Thanks again

JWW

Hi,
If you want one of the best supported receivers at the moment, the Technomates fulfill this role.
The TM1000 series only have an RS232 port, which needs a null-modem cable to connect to your PC if it has a com port, else you also need a USB to RS232 converter cable.

The TM5200D also has a USB port, the software can then be applied with a 'key' drive.

There is however problems reported with the patch at the moment that prevents the PVR facility working fully when patched

Technomates start at around £70 for TM1000D and as Robbo says they are the best supported.
