Installed a Parallel Port card yesterday but how on earth do I change the Parallel Port setting in my BIOS (need to change from ECP to EPP). Have a Dell Desktop running on Windows XP.
Only guide I found on www was Enter BIOS to the Advanced > Periperal Config and set Mode. Problem is ain't no Advanced option. ![]() Guess I need some hand-holding, is there anyone out there who can help me? |

All Bios seems to have different settings, it may be a case of going through every setting and looking for Parallel or LPT settings.

Hi lucky13
![]() If you want to use a Printer ((etc)) that needs a parallel interface you can use a USB to parallel port cable (see picture and link, the cable is not expensive and can be purchased in most PC stores) ![]() Example >>> USB to Parallel port Cable The problem with a Parallel Port PCI Card is that your BIOS and Windows XP has no installation sequence for it, but don't give up as most interfaces are possible, please see here as other people have had this problem >>> Windows IT Toolbox Cindy

I have some of those cables in the shop, however, if you're wanting to use it for a JTAG, I'm told that they don't work very well.

Hi lucky13
![]() I'm wondering has your PC not got a Parallel port ? as you can get splitters if that port is already in use.

Hey guys - thanks for your replies.
Had already bought DB25 to USB adapter cable to discover that it didn't work properly for JTAGing. All the pre supplied ports on by PC are USB ports. Gave in and phoned DELL this am and their support rep was really helpful but after all my hard work - the Dell desktop I have (Dimension 5150) does not support changing the Parallel Port Mode within the BIOS and only supports Uni-directional communication. Can't JTAG box with my PC. In fairness to DELL they are taking back the PCI card and giving me full refund. |
